A Spiffing Adventure Game

When it comes to games by far the closest to traditional storytelling are adventure games.  I’m old enough to remember when that meant completely text based games but these days (and lets be honest, for the last 20 years at least) those have been replaced by graphical point-and-click adventures.  The format may have changed but the pleasure of watching the story unfold as you solve the puzzles is still just as great.

While I love adventure games of all types I have a real soft spot for those with a strong comedy element.  I literally cried with laughter while playing Day of the Tentacle and insult based swordfights from The Secret of Monkey Island still make me grin.

So when I saw a Kickstarter for a new comedy adventure game I couldn’t resist taking a look.  I’m really glad I did.  The trailer had me laughing, and after seeing the “wonderful” spaceship (floating away at the top of this post) I was really hooked.  To quote the developers…

Her Majesty’s SPIFFING is a quaint point and click adventure game following the exploits of Captain Frank Lee English and his trusted regional accented colleague, Aled, as they travel through the cosmos in search of new planets to claim for a galactic British Empire.

If you like the British sense of humour, even if you’re not interested in games, go watch the trailer on their kickstarter page.  After all, who doesn’t love talking about the weather and the perfect way to make a cup of tea.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.  And if you are into games and want to play this story please back the game.  Here’s a couple more images, including the spaceship in all it’s… err… splendour…
